2010 Housing Options Now Up!!!
Note: We are providing the following options for students. In each of these cases, we have contracted for the entire facility, so if you elect double occupancy or a hostal situation, you will be housed with another program participant.
Hacienda de Las Flores
Description: This option is several blocks off the Jardin, the center of town, and all rooms border a lovely courtyard. All rooms have, AT LEAST, a small refrigerator, microwave, and coffee pot. Suites are available with complete kitchenettes and sitting areas. This location also features wireless internet access and has a small pool. Breakfast is included, and served from 8 am to 12 pm. Breakfast is substantial, but you order a la carte, so you can just have fruit and juice if you want, or pancakes and eggs if you'd rather. Try the jugo verde - a dark green juice with cactus, celery, pineapple, papaya, and orange juice. It famously helps with digestion, but is also delicious!
Also features a rooftop terrace with amazing views.
Advantages: This is a really comfortable, pretty spot, and is centrally located. Has all the amenities you could ask for for a month!
Disadvantages: This will be our costliest location. And it may be more than you need. If you are not interested in having a kitchen, this one probably isn't for you. This location is great for couples!
Price: Prices range from $1350 to $2100 for the month, with a $300 upcharge for a second person in the room.
Regular Room, Small: I have one regular room with two single beds available: $1350
(this room is a little less because its a little smaller, however, it is still quite comfortable for one person for the month!)
Regular Room (with refrigerator, coffee pot, and microwave): $1700
Junior Suite (with refrigerator, coffee pot, and microwave): $1800
Suite (with kitchenette): $1900
Cost of Second Person: $300

Mansion del Bosque
Description: This option is located near the park and a few blocks off the Jardin, or the center of town. Its about a ten minute walk from school. Most rooms border a lovely courtyard, seen in the photo, and all have private bathrooms.
A basic breakfast is included, and served at 8 am. Wireless internet available in the courtyard.
Advantages: Great location right near the Jardin, and the rooms are clean and comfortable, though they do vary greatly from one another. The breakfast is plentiful and good. The basics are included, including fruit and juice, but you may also order a la carte. If you don't want kitchen access, this is an affordable and comfortable option. They will also do your laundry for an additional fee.
Disadvantages: No kitchen access! Also, wireless is only really accessible in the courtyard. Plenty of coffee shops nearby though.... Also, you'll need to be careful about the breakfast, as there are surcharges for certain items. So be careful when you order.

La Casa De Elvia
Description: This is a lovely place. Each room has its own private bath, and the rates include breakfast. The rooms all have a very colorful, Mexican appeal, and there are a couple of terraces with amazing views of the city. Wireless internet available. Advantages: very affordable rates, including breakfast, and a short walk to school. Elvia herself is also a gem, and packs breakfast for students on excursions days, when we leave leave well before breakfast is available.
Disadvantages: Its an uphill, approximately 15 minute walk to the Jardin, the center of town.
Prices (all rates include breakfast):
Single Room: $1000 for the month
Double Room: $1500 for the month, or $750 per person |

Advantages: A very affordable location, a reasonable walk to school, and is not far from La Casa De Elvia.
Disadvantages: It will take approximately 15 mins to walk from here to the Jardin. Also, no wireless internet offered here, though it is available in coffee shops and restaurants nearby, as well as at school.

Callejon Del Codo Efficiency Apartments
Description: These are one bedroom efficiency apartments with a small kitchenette. They are located just outside of the centro and just off of Umaran. They are a very short walk from the Jardin (about 4 blocks), and a ten to fifteen minute walk from our main school location. Bedrooms have a double bed or twin bed set up. They have maid service once a week, and wireless internet is also available.
There are a total of four one bedroom efficiencies here. They share an upstairs balcony and small courtyard/entrance.
Advantages: Affordability and privacy is certainly one of the biggest advantages of this location. However, its relatively close proximity to the Jardin makes it a highly desirable location as well.
Disadvantages: The apartments are relatively bare bones and small, and downhill from the Jardin.
Price:
$800 per Apartment for 1 month
(Currently all taken - Please email to be placed on the waiting list!)

Casita de las Flores
Description: A little outside of town, this location boasts a quiet courtyard with its own avocado trees. We have five rooms available here for single or double occupancy, and all rooms share two bathrooms and a kitchen. Rooms are comfortable, clean, and cozy. There is also a small courtyard here, and there is wireless internet access available for the guests.
Advantages: This option is very affordable, and you do have access to a full kitchen. If you don't mind walking, or sharing a bathroom with your friends, this option could be for you. I think it would be ideal for a couple!
Disadvantages: This is a 20 minute walk to the Jardin, and about a 30 minute walk to the school (although a taxi will run you only about $2 US, and there is also a bus). Also, you do not have your own bathroom. And breakfast is not included here, but you do have access to a kitchen so you can make your own, or go in with the other students here to share the cost...

Hostal Iron House
Description: This is our most basic, and therefore most affordable option. This is a hostel, but it is clean, and comfortable, and literally right around the corner from our school. The beds are set up in three quads, ie, there are three rooms on two levels, each with two bunk beds. There are also two private rooms available - these go FAST, so if you think this is what you want, you need to sign up and book right away!
Here, though, you pay per bed, and therefore would have the option of buying more than one bed. That way, a quad could be a double, or even a single. The beds are arranged in small groups and only our students will be at this hostal during our stay. The hostal has free wireless internet access. All rooms have kitchen access, and the kitchens are large and well equipped. For those on a budget, this is ideal!
The hostal is about a ten minute walk to the Jardin.
Advantages: It is an extremely affordable option, and located right next to our school location. Students from the first year absolutely loved it, and it got some of the highest ratings of all our housing locations.
Disadvantages: You could be sharing a room with up to three people, and the rooms are bare-bones. You also share a bathroom.
Price:
Bed: $375 per month*
Private Room: $600 per month
*It is possible to purchase more than one bed per person here at the hostal. So in other words, if one person wanted to buy two beds in a room, you would effectively turn a quad into a triple, or if two people did this, a double. The price for two beds would be $750.... |
